Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Issues Warrants in Shooting Death Yesterday

(Walhalla, SC)—————————————–The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has obtained warrants this afternoon against 34 year old Shane Adam Burdette in the shooting death yesterday morning of James Evan Tyner.

The two warrants charge Burdette with murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime. The murder warrants allege that Mr. Burdette killed the victim Mr. Tyner by “shooting him with a shotgun in the back of the neck” and alleges the incident took place at 108 Mt. Pleasant Road. The possession charges alleges that Mr. Burdette did have in his possession a shotgun “which was used in the commission of the violent crime of murder.” The possession warrant also indicates that Mr. Tyner was shot “in the back of the neck” at the Mt. Pleasant Road location in Oconee County.

The warrants were served to Mr. Burdette around 3:50pm at the Oconee County Detention Center.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation.

Burdette pled guilty in February of 2015 to one count each of Voluntary Manslaughter and Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime. Burdette was given a 25 year prison sentence suspended to 15 years and 5 years probation. Burdette was also sentenced to 5 years in prison for the Weapons Possession charged. The sentences are to run concurrently. Burdette was also given credit for time served.
